Former Dutch international Robin van Persie has signed a two-year deal as head coach with Eredivisie side Heerenveen, according to the AD and local paper Leeuwarder Courant.
Van Persie, 40, will succeed Kees van Wonderen who announced his departure in March, the media outlets said. He is currently head youth coach at Rotterdam club Feyenoord.
Van Persie stopped playing the game professionally in 2019. He has 102 caps for the Netherlands and has 50 goals for Oranje, making him the all-time top scorer.
The Frisian side are currently 10th in the Dutch top flight division.
Meanwhile, British media report that English club Liverpool are near to a deal with Feyenoordβs head coach Arne Slot. According to Athletic a compensation fee of Β£11-12 million has been agreed between Liverpool and Feyenoord and a deal is βvery closeβ.
Dutch media are reporting that Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida went to watch this weekendβs tie between West Ham United and Liverpool and, according to the Telegraaf, is keen to make a move with Slot.
